Ms. Huong is a nurse practitioner at the Health Care Center in Hue, Vietnam who has now successfully completed the MEDRIX sponsored, Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) course!
Quality healthcare in low-income countries around the world tends to be lacking for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it can be due to a lack of adequate training (of the practitioners), a lack of drugs, a lack of medical equipment… the list goes on. IMCI was developed by the World Health Organization in partnership with UNICEF as a resource to be taught and used internationally to help combat some of these healthcare pitfalls. This course is designed to train nurses in emerging countries on how to detect common childhood illnesses earlier rather than later.
Thanks to Cherry Crest Elementary, Nurse Huong is now more able to accurately diagnose a child’s illness, provide them with the correct care to treat the illness, and then guide the parents or grandparents in effective follow-up care at home for a successful recovery.
